Dirty Dough - Amarillo
Cannon Carter

My name is Cannon Carter. I built and manage Dirty Dough here in Amarillo, Texas.

We started our business in August of 2023. and we just recently opened our business late August of 2024.

Why did you decide to start a business?
I've taken entrepreneurship classes in high school, and me and my father always wanted to start a business together so Dirty Dough. He wanted me to do a franchise because they have resources for you to start with, so we did it!

What is your favorite memory about starting the business?

There's a lot of good memories. I mean, from watching this place come together to when the doors opened. One of my best memories is when me and my mother had to come to the store to leave the door open because when they did the floor, it left a smell that needed to be ventilated out. So we spent the day just sitting outside, just spending time together.

What has been the most rewarding part about running the business?

I enjoy giving back to my community and another thing I enjoy a lot is being able to say I was 17 years old and I built a business at such a young age.

What's been the most challenging thing about starting then?

The most challenging thing was that I'm a student high school.
I'm a senior, and I have to do high school band and of course the business. So those three items take up a lot of time.

As a young young entrepreneur, what would be some advice that you can give to other young people, to start their own business?
Once you do it, don't stop. Once you start going, don't take any breaks like long periods of breaks. You need to keep going. Because once you stop, you're going to start getting lazier and lazier. Do not stop because the reward is amazing!

How has the SBDC helped you with your business?

We got great advice from Shane. We also were able to use their conference rooms for our interviews because our store hadn't actually been built yet.

If you were a Dirty Dough Cookie; what cookie would you be? And why?

I think I would be the Brookie. The best way I can describe the Brookie cookie and myself is simple, yet complex.
